If you have space and time to store, stack and dry then green wood might be for you.

Green wood has been felled within previous 3-6 months and will require another 8-12 months to dry in order to burn and produce heat. Green wood is cut to 16 inches length (standard size) and will need some secondary splitting with axe or wood splitter.

Green wood is cheaper to buy.

Green wood needs to site for at least 12 – 18 months, the longer the dryer and better it burns. It needs airflow, dry location and the more sun the better. Typically you can achieve down to 20% moisture.

Once your green wood is dry, it’s now called “Seasoned Wood.” Typically you will dry the green wood in a location where it can be easily covered and won’t get wet. It’s important that the Seasoned Wood has good air flow or mold and bugs will exsit.
